This course is designed to enable HLOs, HDAs and other personnel required to operate radios to effectively communicate with helicopter pilots during routine and emergency flights.

Objective
To provide personnel who have the responsibility of communicating with aircraft offshore with relevant information and correct phraseology and technical information to communicate effectively and in a safe and controlled manner.

Standard speech abbreviations
Aircraft call signs
Readability of transmissions
Reporting of helideck movement
Correct terminology
Aircraft distress and urgency response procedures
Candidates will be provided with a copy of Cap 452 Aeronautical Radio Station Operators
Guide on enrolment.
Delegates will be competent in operating Offshore Radios during communication with aircrafts
offshore incorporating the correct phraseology and technical information in a safe and controlled manner.
Exam
Delegates will be examined by a suitably qualified assessor according the UK Civil Aviation
Authorities International Standard of Competency.
UK Civil Aviation Authority International will validate all successful delegates with an Offshore
Radio Operators Certificate of Competence on completion of both the Theoretical and Oral examinations.
