The Travel Safely by Boat initial training programme is designed for personnel currently travelling and transferring by boat to an offshore oil and gas installation.
Prerequisites
None required
Objective
To ensure that all personnel travelling/transferring by boat to work in offshore areas acquire the relevant skills and knowledge to perform this routine task confidently and safely.
Course content
Delegates who successfully complete this course will acquire the following knowledge and skills:
a) Awareness of the risks to which they are exposed and how they are managed
b) An understanding of the essential safety rules with which they must comply and how to act in an emergency
c) An increase in their personal commitment to safety
d) Effective use of personal safety equipment
e) Practice and demonstrate correct method of boat transfers (simulated boat deck and installation)
PRACTICAL
To successfully complete this training, delegates must be able to demonstrate:
Boat Travel
(1) Donning of an appropriate floatation device as used during boat transfers e.g. work-vest
(2) A method of transfer between a simulated boat deck and a simulated fixed installation deck using swing rope transfers with luggage transfers
Boat Emergencies
(1) Actions in preparation of a boat emergency
(2) Actions in the event of an abandonment
(3) Survival techniques following an abandonment
Exam
Delegates will be assessed against the Learning Outcomes specified in the Content Section using direct observation.
Should a delegate encounter challenges to meet these Learning Outcomes, RON shall provide additional coaching as an opportunity to meet those requirements
