Persons who are appointed to the duty as conventional (capsule) lifeboat coxswain on board an offshore installation.
Prerequisites
No training prerequisites are required.
Persons enrolling on this course must be able to show a valid offshore medical certificate prior to participating in practical exercises.
Objective
The objective of the Coxswain Conventional training is to train delegates in the preparation, launching and handling of a rescue craft on board an offshore installation, being a conventional lifeboat. Furthermore to act as the responsible person for a lifeboat and its passengers during normal operation and in the event of an emergency.
Course content
The training will consist of the following learning targets:
- Maintaining the lifeboat in an operational condition
- To contribute to drills or to carry out drills
- React to alarms
- Preparation of the lifeboat for launching
- Boarding allowance
- Launching the lifeboat
- Navigation of the lifeboat and moving to a safe area
- Communication by radio or other means
- Ensuring safety of passengers and lifeboat
- Embarking and disembarking of passengers
Exam
Delegates will be assessed against the learning outcomes specified in the NOGEPA training handbook chapter 2.7 Coxswain lifeboat by using direct observation.
