Target group
This course is suitable for personnel with electrical, instrument or mechanical background within industry who require an understanding of selection and practice in assembly of cable glands.
Prerequisites
None required.
Objective
This competence-based course, is designed to provide instruction in the selection and development of cable glanding, in accordance with the relevant NEC 500, NEC 505 and IEC standards, and progressing to the assembly and installation of different manufactured types in the workshop.
Course content
Delegates who successfully complete this course will acquire the following knowledge and skills: • Construction of low voltage cable types and the requirements for termination in apparatus • Application of the different cable gland types for apparatus • Cable gland selection for various Ex protection methods • Assembly requirements of cable gland types to maintain the integrity of Ex protection methods • Carry out practical gland assembly for protection methods • Repair of gland assembly faults, where necessary • Installation and termination of cables to acceptable standards
Exam
Delegates will be assessed against the Learning Outcomes specified in the Content Section using direct observation and oral and/or written questions as appropriate. Delegates will be required to undertake a written test. The pass mark for this course is 80%. Should a delegate encounter challenges to meet these Learning Outcomes, RON shall provide additional coaching as an opportunity to meet those requirements
