Offshore/Onshore workers involving de-energizing of equipment
Prerequisites
None
Objective
To ensure:
- safe operating procedures and effective/efficient use of lock out tag out equipment
- that personnel, the environment and equipment are protected from unintended releases of
potentially hazardous substances or energy while performing process equipment and/or
piping repair, service or maintenance activities.
Course content

- Application of LOTO
- Locks and Tags and when to use them
* Repair/replacement work
* Renovation work
* Modifications or other adjustments to power equipment
- Hazardous Energy Control
- Applying Controls
- Written LOTO Procedures
- Removal of LOTO
- Group Lock Out
- Shift Changes
- Contractors
- Terminology
- Knowing when to employ isolation procedures
* double block and bleed
* slip blind (skillet) or spectacle blind
* blind flange
- Proper isolation of process equipment during repair, servicing or maintenance
- Identify situations where injury or damage could occur due to
* unexpected release of hydrocarbons or potentially hazardous substances
* unsafe situations
Exam
The candidate will be required to score a minimum competency of 70% on a written exam.
