Target group
This course is designed for experienced crane operators who wish to validate and enhance their operational skills. It is ideal for individuals seeking to ensure their proficiency levels meet current industry standards and safety regulations. Main purpose: The primary objective of the course is to evaluate and enhance the proficiency of crane operators by engaging them in simulated exercises and scenarios. The aim is to ensure that operators attain the required level of competence. This is achieved by subjecting the operators to various real-life crane situations within the framework of the RDS3 crane simulator. Through these simulations, operators are safely exposed to mechanical and emergency scenarios, allowing them to rehearse and respond appropriately. Operators will also demonstrate their abilities to plan and execute lifting operations using the operation manifest,
Prerequisites
Valid crane operator certification. A minimum of one year of operational experience as a crane operator. Basic understanding of crane operation principles and safety protocols.
Objective
Upon completion of the course, participants will have demonstrated and verified their proficiency in the subject matter through simulated practical applications and assessments, consisting of the following: - Demonstrating improved proficiency in crane operations through simulated exercises. - Effectively planning and executing lifting operations using an operation manifest. - Communicating efficiently using standard hand signals and communication protocols. - Understanding and applying the roles and responsibilities within crane operations. - Interpreting load charts and recognizing operational limitations. - Safely conducting hoisting of various loads, including blind lifts. - Maintaining constant tension (CT) and operating emergency buttons (AOPS/MOPS) effectively. - Navigating various weather conditions and work environments, including significant wave heights and operative sectors such as overboard, platform, and boat operations. - Responding appropriately to emergency scenarios through emergency driving techniques. - Successfully passing both theoretical and practical assessments.
Course content
The course is structured around the following key components: Planning of Lifting Operations: Utilization of the operation manifest to plan lifts efficiently. Toolbox Talks: Daily safety and operational briefings. Communication and Hand Signals: Standardized protocols for on-site communication. Roles and Responsibilities: Clarity on individual roles and their impact on safe crane operations. Load Charts and Limitations: Understanding crane capacities and limitations. Hoisting Techniques: Safe practices for hoisting various types of loads. Blind Lift Operations: Techniques for handling lifts where the load is not visible from the crane operator's position. Constant Tension (CT): Maintaining tension on the line to prevent slack wire. Emergency Operations (AOPS/MOPS): Utilization of emergency protocols in critical situations. Weather and Working Conditions: Adapting to environmental challenges and operational constraints. Significant Wave Height: Understanding the impact of wave height on crane operations. Operative Sectors: Strategies for overboard, platform, and boat lifts. Emergency Driving: Techniques for handling emergency situations effectively. Participants will be assessed through a combination of methods to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of their skills and knowledge: Multiple Choice Theory Test: A written examination to assess theoretical understanding of crane operations. Simulator Test: Practical assessment using the RDS3 crane simulator to evaluate the operator's ability to handle real-life scenarios and emergency situations. Practical Simulator Activities: Continuous monitoring and logging of all simulator activities to provide feedback and areas for improvement.
Exam
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive certification indicating their competence level, enhancing their professional credentials and operational safety awareness.
