Target group
Personnel who will be working in the wind industry or related fields, and will carry out their duties in a wind turbine environment, usually in physical contact with a wind turbine or offshore wind structure. Personnel that perform job functions that have been risk assessed by their employer or workplace, where training according to one or more modules of the BST standard may mitigate the identified risks.
Prerequisites
No prerequisites are required to sit this course.
Objective
This course provides delegates with an overall understanding of fire safety in wind turbine environments. You will learn about relevant health and safety legislation, theory on the nature of fire and how it spreads, along with practical guidance on fire prevention and firefighting equipment.
Course content
LO1: Identify global and national legislative requirements for fire safety in wind turbine generator environments LO2: Explain the types of fire, state of material and the influence of the size of surface LO3: Explain the requirements for fire and the fire triangle LO4: Explain the contributing factors of fire combustion and spread LO5: Identify the various types of fire gases within a WTG LO6: Explain WTG contingency plans LO7: Explain how to assess a fire LO8: Identify the various classes of fire and associated means of suppression LO9: Explain how to safely use different extinguisher types LO10: Explain the fire hazards and risks in a WTG LO11: Explain good practice for fire prevention LO12: Describe the fixed systems in place for fire prevention LO13: Explain the importance of pre-use inspection of firefighting equipment
