The Sparrows LOLER Competent Person Training training course is ideally suited both to personnel aiming to be assessed for the first time against the LCP standard or for those who have not routinely undertaken this role prior to re-assessment. It ensures knowledge is current and fully prepares individuals for the assessment process. This course is also suitable for those who plan or approve lifting operations in a variety of workplaces and are responsible for ensuring compliance with company lifting procedures and legislative requirements.
Prerequisites
The course is open to candidates who meet the OPITO prerequisites for LCP assessment but require revision or individual development prior to the assessment process. OPITO requirements are that candidates selected for LCP assessment must have suitable and relevant experience in both crane operations and hoisting and lifting operations involving portable lifting equipment. They should have supervisory experience and control and command capability.
Objective
This interactive three-day course aims to update the skills and knowledge of candidates to fully prepare them for the OPITO-approved LCP assessment.
Course content
A candidate-centred learning approach is used, combining interactive sessions on theoretical activities, practice tests and practical exercises. These are specifically designed to coach the LCP candidate in how to find, interpret and then apply information correctly in the workplace in the role of LCP or lifting supervisor.
The course enables individuals to build on their existing lifting experience to become trained and knowledgeable LCPs. It includes training and development in:
• Relevant legislation, regulations, approved codes of practice and guidance, and how to interpret and apply these correctly in the workplace
• Coaching/mentoring and the supervision of lifting personnel
• Selection, inspection and the safe use of lifting equipment
• Control of the lifting equipment
• Planning the lifting operation and preparing the risk assessment
• Lift planning focusing on utilising lift plans and task-based risk assessments effectively, including the ability to construct lifting plans for specific tasks.
Exam
A Sparrows Training Standard certificate will be awarded on successful completion of this course.The certificate is valid for two years.
