The Sparrows Gantry Crane Operator Training is designed for operators of overhead gantry cranes located in onshore warehouse facilities or at an offshore workplace.
Prerequisites
It is the responsibility of the employer to ensure that candidates elected for this training are currently or soon-to-be involved overhead gantry crane operations.
Objective
The aim of this course is to establish that the delegate has the required underpinning knowledge, understanding and practical skills to fulfil the role of overhead gantry crane operator safely, effectively and competently.
Course content
Delegates will trained and assessed in a mix of theoretical and practical elements. Practical exercises will be assessed on an ongoing basis and a theoretical exam is conducted at the end of the course. The key areas of focus include:
• Lifting operations legislation i.e. LOLER / best practice / safe systems of work
• Types of overhead cranes
• Hazards associated with overhead cranes
• Organising a lifting operation
• Principles of a lifting operation
• Pre-operational and operational checks
• Safe slinging & signalling
• Overhead crane maintenance requirements
Exam
Sparrows Gantry Crane Operator certificate will be awarded to the candidate on successful completion of all practical and theoretical elements. The certificate is valid for two years.
