Target group
This Pre-Employment Assessment is designed for Offshore Crane Operators in the later stages of a recruitment process with a prospective employer.
Prerequisites
Candidates must hold either a valid Stage 2 or Stage 3 certificate as appropriate to their role. It is the responsibility of the sponsoring company i.e. the prospective employer, to nominate the candidate and to agree a set criteria with Sparrows to which the candidate will be assessed. The criteria will be appropriate to the prospective role.
Objective
The aim of the assessment is to verify that the candidate can safely and effectively perform the safety critical tasks associated with the role he/she is applying for. The Sparrows verified assessor will conduct both practical and theoretical elements to further determine base underpinning knowledge.
Course content
Practical elements conducted on the crane simulator will include but is not limited to: • Industry best practice/Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) • Safe use of cranes in the offshore environment • Crane pre-start/pre-operational checks and inspections • Emergency procedures/emergency load lowering/crane operation limitations/individual operator’s limitations • Basic crane control/co-ordination • Ability to make the crane and load • Effective communication and reporting
Exam
Following successful completion of the practical elements and a theoretical knowledge test, the sponsoring company will be provided with feedback and an official company-headed letter stating the outcome of the assessment. No certification issued.
