This HSE approved training programme is designed to meet the initial requirements for Offshore First Aiders as defined by the Offshore Installations and Pipeline Works (First Aid)
Regulations. The course is appropriate for personnel who will be designated First Aiders on Offshore installations.
This additional elements of this course are designed for established First Aiders to achieve competence in advanced principles and techniques of Airway and Fluids management, and is suitable for personnel who require training to be able to provide advanced assistance to the Rig Medic.
Prerequisites
There are no pre requisites for attending this training programme.
Objective
The course consists of classroom theory and practical exercise modules in first aid, and culminating in assessment by oral and practical examination of delegates against the required training outcomes
Course content
On completion of the course delegates will have knowledge and will be able to:
Offshore First Aid:
Offshore legislation and regulations.
Apply Basic life support procedures and use and maintenance of oxygen equipment and
Automatic defibrillators
Control bleeding and manage the unconscious patient
Recognise and treat shock, hypothermia, and immersion
Recognise and treat minor illness
Know of poisons encountered offshore
Treat injuries, burns, scalds and inhalation of hot gases and smoke
Explain correct personal hygiene requirements in the treatment of wounds
Dress and immobilise injured parts and perform follow-up treatment, i.e. redressing
Demonstrate correct transport techniques of the sick and injured, including helicopter transport and patient management during flight.
Identify and be familiar with the contents of first aid boxes and their proper use
Effectively communicate and delegate activity during an emergency
Perform simple record keeping functions.
Identification and safe use of Entinox
Advanced First Aid Techniques Offshore:
Causes of interruption to fluid balance
Situations requiring fluid replacement
Preparation of fluid replacement apparatus
Management of fluid replacement
Preparation of Advanced airway management equipment
Advanced Airway Management
Measuring and recording of vital signs
Exam
Delegates will be assessed against the learning outcomes by oral and practical examination or by written and practical examination.
On successful completion of the written and practical examination, delegates will be awarded with a HSE Offshore First Aid Certificate which is valid for 3 years and a RelyOn Nutec Advanced First Aid Techniques Offshore certificate which is valid for 3 years
