Target group
This course is aimed at emergency response team members appointed to control fire-fighting operations and officers who wish to qualify for a Certificate of Competency
Prerequisites
No prior training is required by delegates attending this training course.
Objective
The Compartment Fire Behavior Training (CFBT) is developed to equip delegates with the capacity knowledge and skills to employ to competently and safely follow the correct procedures to be adopted to reduce the probability of flashover and back draught occurring at an emergency.
Course content
This course consists of practical and theoretical training and knowledge of: • Understand the principles of combustion and compartment fire behavior; • Understand how fire develops and spreads within a compartment and how it can be extinguished; • Understand and demonstrate the appropriate extinguishing techniques, cooling techniques and ventilation techniques; and • Demonstrate the appropriate entry techniques, recognize the hazards and risks within the environment, and apply the appropriate tactics • Understand the terms combustion, Pyrolysis, hot gases and limits of flammability • Understand the implication and hazards of these, in association with compartment fire fighting • Observe the combustion of smoke and the ignition of a flammable gas through its flammable range • Identify the signs of a flashover • Identify the signs of a back draught • Observe the development of a compartment fire and the effect construction has on that fire • Understand the limitations of fire ground PPE • Carry out correct door entry procedures
Exam
On completion of this course, a written assessment will be taken.
