Target group
Individuals who work directly with electrical equipment, such as electricians, engineers, and maintenance personnel. Employees who work near electrical hazards but do not directly interact with electrical equipment, such as management, labourers, cleaners and visitors to the facility. Outside contractors who may be working on or near electrical systems should also be trained to recognise and avoid arc flash hazards. Personnel who might respond to electrical incidents, such as safety officers and first responders, should be aware of the dangers and appropriate response measures.

Objective
In this course, you’ll gain the knowledge to be an Aware Person of electrical hazards as required by OSHA. You’ll also learn about the classification of an Unqualified Person according to NFPA 70E. By the end of the course, you’ll be equipped to recognize and address electrical hazards in the workplace, ensuring a safer environment for everyone. For the purpose of this course, electrical apparatus refers to equipment used to generate, transform, or supply electricity at high voltage (HV) and included low voltage (LV) equipment and used to control de facility.

Describe the role of an Aware Person under OSHA, including how to recognize and respond to electrical hazards Explain the classification and limitations of an Unqualified Person according to NFPA 70E Identify common electrical hazards and associated risks Maintain safe distances from energized equipment Apply safety protocols, including lockout-tagout Distinguish between the responsibilities of Aware and Unqualified Persons Follow safe entry and exit procedures Respond to electrical emergencies using site-specific protocols
