The Sparrows Banksman & Slinger Stage 3 competence assessment is for personnel who want to become competent banksman and slingers.
Prerequisites
All delegates must hold a valid and in-date banksman and slinger Stage 1 certificate and have a fully completed logbook to meet Stage 2 requirements.
If a candidate does not hold valid certification, a formal letter from their employer may be submitted stating that they have met the equivalent of the banksman and slinger stage 2 logbook requirements.
Objective
The aim of the Sparrows Banksman & Slinger Stage 3 competence assessment is to establish that the delegate has the required underpinning knowledge, understanding and practical skills to fulfil the role of banksman and slinger safely, effectively and competently.
Course content
Delegates will undertake a practical assessment where they must demonstrate their competency in the following areas:
• Direct and control the movement and placing of loads
o Maintaining clear and accurate communication with crane operator
o Awareness of other ongoing operations which may affect lifting activities
• Prepare and sling loads
o Establishing the weight of the load
o Determining and checking the lifting method
o Lifting accessories
o Slinging of loads
o Clearing the work area.
Theoretical knowledge will also be assessed with a written exam.
Exam
A Sparrows-approved Banksman & Slinger Stage 3 certificate is awarded on successful completion of both the knowledge and practical assessments.
The certification is valid for two years. Before the certificate expires, delegates must complete the Stage 3 Banksman and Slinger Re-assessment to remain certified.
