The Sparrows Offshore Crane Appreciation course is designed for personnel who are not directly involved with hands on crane and lifting operations.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for the Crane Appreciation course.
Objective
The aim of this course is to provide candidates with a better knowledge and understanding of the legal responsibilities and practicalities of offshore cranes and lifting operations.
Course content
This course covers:
• Relevant legislation
• Fundamental crane terminology
• Identification of components
• Pedestal mounted boom cranes
• Crane common features
• Typical crane operation limitations
• Safe load indication
• Overload protection systems
• Introduction to wire ropes inspection and care
• Safe use of cranes in the offshore environment
• Crane inspection, maintenance and thorough examination
• Typical crane pre-start/pre-operational checks and inspections
• Introduction, familiarisation and practical skills on the crane simulator
Exam
The course includes an informal assessment following the theoretical section to demonstrate retention of knowledge. A Sparrows certificate will be awarded on successful completion of this course.
