Target group
Offshore Hydraulic Pedestal Crane Operators. This course is designed to bring a level of awareness to safe crane operating practices expected of hydraulic pedestal crane operators based on the 7th Edition of the API RP 2D Operation and Maintenance of Offshore Cranes. The course will expose the delegate to information relative to operating a crane (including load chart exercises), rigging, moving personnel, hand signals, inspection, and selection of slings.
Prerequisites
Must possess a valid, current API-U Qualified Rigger training certificate or valid rigger certification that meets API-U 8.1.1 rigger requirements found within the Operation and Maintenance of Offshore Cranes standard (7th Ed., December 2014). Note: According to the API RP 2D 7th Edition Regulations, it is recommended to have a medical certificate from the employer (or private payer) showing that the delegate is fit to perform the duties of a crane operator.
Objective
At the end of the course, the delegate may: Recognize the official regulations related to the operations of the crane. Apply appropriate procedures to rig loads to lift. Identify the criteria for the proper selection of sling and slings. Explain how to carry out a previous maneuver planning meeting. Declare the responsibilities of the maneuvers. Use load charts to determine the load capacity in maneuvers. Operate a pedestal crane safely while performing various tasks. Perform the pre-maneuver inspection. Demonstrate knowledge of the correct hand signals. Perform three types of elevators with a pedestal crane (static, blind and dynamic). NOTE: This course is approved by API-U and the completion certificate will bear that logo.
Course content
This 2-day (16 hpurs) course will cover the following contents: - Crane Components and Lifting Capacities - Wire Rope Construction and Use - Mounting Features of the Revolving Upper Structure - Boom Structure - Limit Devices - Additional Items Lift Plan and JSA/JSEA
Exam
Delegate necessary skills shall be evaluated through written, practical, and oral assessment. For successful completion, delegates must attain a minimum satisfactory score of 75% on a closed-book written assessment and 100% on all practical assessments in accordance with the latest edition of the API RP 2D standard NOTE: Successful completion of the course does NOT designate the delegate as a Certified Hydraulic Pedestal Crane Operator; The distinction of being considered “certified” must be determined by the employer. NOTE: Successful completion of the course does not designate the delegate as a certified pedestal crane operator. The distinction of being deemed “certified” must be determined by the employer.
