This MCA approved training is intended for seafarers who are designated to provide medical first aid on board ship in accordance with regulation VI/4 of the annex to the STCW Convention and Section A-VI/4(1-3) of the STCW code and the Merchant Shipping (Training and Certification) Regulations 1997.
The training objectives comply with Unit 122 ( Element 5 ) of the Marine Vessel Operations S/NVQs
The training programme also meets the requirements of the IMO STCW standards.
Prerequisites
Delegates for Medical First Aid must be at least 16 years of age and are required to have successfully completed prior training in Elementary First Aid or equivalent and to have at least 6 months seagoing service
Objective
The aim of the training which is delivered in both theoretical and practical elements is for the delegate to be able to apply immediate first aid in the event of an accident or illness on board, and have knowledge of reference materials and first aid and medical equipment on board, and understand their use in the management of accidents and medical emergencies. Delegates will undergo a final assessment by qualified assessors.
