Students who have had no previous offshore experience. Students whose previous certification has expired
Prerequisites
Completion of OPITO E-BOSIET CD Rom, within three months of issue from Falck Nutec.
Objective
To provide basic training to novice or previously qualified students in awareness of the hazards encountered when travelling to and from offshore installations, when working on offshore installations, and the safety regime and safety management systems. Theoretical elements of the training programme are conducted by the delegate using the OPITO E-Learning CD Rom, prior to attendance at the training centre where a written assessment will be conducted before completing the practical elements. The course is designed for personnel working or intending to work on an offshore installation in the British Sector and form part of a Common Offshore Safety Induction process.
Course content
Basic Safety Induction (Theory by CD Rom learning prior to course commencement ) overview of offshore oil & gas activities & various types of installations offshore hazards & comparative degrees of risks, protection & mitigation means discussion of environmental issues such as waste disposal & oil spills organisation structure, functional roles and responsibilities in terms of safety safety management system, offshore legislation, permit to work systems medical and health fitness standards, substance abuse living offshore, working routines, injuries and illness Helicopter Safety & Escape Training (Practical): preparing for helicopter ditchings and emergency landings actions following controlled emergency descent on to dry land & water partial submersion of aircraft and capsizing in water Operation and use of Emergency Breathing Systems (EBS) Sea Survival Training (Practical): lifejacket use mustering, boarding and role as a passenger in a survival craft (TEMPSC) correct fitting of a helicopter strop and body posture during winching Firefighting & Self Rescue Training (Practical): use of hand held fire extinguishers, small bore fire hose reels & fire blankets self rescue techniques with smoke hood & escape type breathing apparatus
