The Banksman & Slinger Initial Training is for personnel wishing to become competent in the Banksman and Slinger role.
Prerequisites
There are no training pre-requisites for this course.
Objective
The objective of the Banksman & Slinger Initial Training course is to provide delegates with the basic knowledge of activities associated with the combined roles, and the safety and regulatory requirements of those activities.
This initial training programme allows the delegates to demonstrate basic Banksman and Slinger practical skills following instruction and demonstration by the training staff. The training programme aims to prepare delegates for the next stage of the progression path to becoming a competent banksman and slinger i.e. Stage 2: supervised workplace experience.
Course content
The course consists of a mix of ongoing theoretical and practical training designed to give delegates the chance to practice banksman & slinging operations, focussing on the following areas:
• Regulations and safety issues
• Introduction to lifting roles and equipment
• Preparing for the lift
• Carrying out the lift
• Restoring the work area
• The Banksman’s duties
• Communications and visibility
• Principles of slinging
• The role of a Banksman & Slinger in a planned lift
