This course is specifically tailored for persons who enter tunnels and require tunnel entry qualifications, incorporating City and Guilds assessment and accreditation 6150-05 or 6150-55 (Water UK or General Industry
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course.
Objective
• The avoidance of serious injury and major harm to employees and evidence of assessment and qualifications towards tunnel entry competence of employees. • Employees who feel they can make a greater contribution to the workplace and who feel their employer has made an investment in their future.
Course content
• Legislation relevant to tunnel entry/safety. • Hazards, risk assessment and risk controls associated with tunnel entry. • Selection of equipment/safety equipment. • Emergency self-rescue procedures.
Exam
The theory is delivered in the classroom, but there is an emphasis on a hands-on experience with relevant safety equipment (refer to our guidance about practical exercises and working with breathing apparatus). Assessment focuses on learners planning a tunnel entry, undertaking written and oral tests and being observed during practical assessments in order to achieve a City and Guilds accredited certificate.
