For gas engineers who are required to install and commission domestic gas sized meters which are then sealed off at the meter outlet fitting, ensuring gas is not left available to installation pipework.
Prerequisites
Sometimes training is required as a pre-requisite to ACS initial assessment e.g. a Qualification or Managed Learning Programme, see Guidance Note 8.When ACS pre-requisites have been attained, training is not compulsory prior to ACS assessment.Candidates must bring with them evidence of the previously achieved qualification in the same subject to enable us to commence training, if expired by over 12 months on the day of assessment, the initial route shall be taken.
Objective
Compliance with HSE requirements by employees achieving ACS qualifications allowing Gas Safe Registration.
Course content
• Gas Safety (Installation & Use) Regulations 1998.
• Tightness testing and purging.
• Gas industry unsafe situations procedure.
• Scope of operatives work checking and setting regulators.
• Operation and positioning of emergency isolation and warning labels.
• Emergency procedures.
• Pipe-work and fittings installations.
Exam
The training is delivered over 3 days by a combination of theoretical and practical sessions. The multiple choice questionnaires (both open and closed book) are then taken on day 4 and candidates are issued with job packs to take away with them.
Candidates must then gain onsite experience with a Gas Safe Registered Engineer in installing domestic gas meters to a capped meter outlet. This must be evidenced using job pack templates and signed off by their mentor onsite.
Once complete the candidate will then come back into centre to complete their Practical Observations and Practical Assessment Workbook Scenarios over 1 day.
