Prerequisites
There is no prerequisite for this course.
Objective
Upon completion of the course, the delegate will be able to:
-List the five main elements of the HAZCOM standard
-Define each of the hazard categories
-Discuss their role in the company HAZCOM program
-Identify the NFPA & HMIS labels
-Define the meaning of the numbers, letters, & colors used on the NFPA & HMIS labels
-Discuss the hazard information found on MSDSs
-Define PEL & TLV
-Define flashpoint
-Define specific gravity
-Discuss who is entitled to access to MSDSs & the written hazcom program
-Discuss the actions they should take prior to using a new chemical
-Discuss the action they should take when bringing a new chemical to a facility
-Locate the company MSDS book
Course content
The topics covered during this training are:
-The five main elements of the HAZCOM standard
-Various terms used with hazardous chemicals
-NFPA and HMIS labels
-MSDSs-what are they, where are they and how to use them
-Working with new chemicals
-Physical versus health hazards
Exam
The delegate will be required to attain a minimum score of 70% on a written assessment.
