Objective
The aim of this course is to increase Pilot Ladder Safety awareness by demonstrating safe practice on the rigging and safe use of the pilot ladder following recommended guidelines of IMO Resolution A.1045 (27) and Solas Chapter V, Regulation 23.

- Combination Ladders (Pilot Ladder & Accommodation Ladder (Gangway))
- Safe Approach
- Access to Deck
- Handholds and Stanchions
- Pilot Ladder Reels
- Inspection and Maintenance
- Marking and Certification
- Pilot Ladder Checklist
- Donning of a permanent buoyancy lifejacket prior to use in an emergency.
- Fitting of a helicopter rescue device and correct body posture during winching.
- Water entry and the precautions to be taken when entering the water
- Individual and group sea survival techniques, to include: swimming, getting into Heat Escape Lessening Position (HELP), wave-slap protection, towing, chain, huddle and circle.
- Boarding a marine liferaft from the water.
Exam
Delegates will be required to undertake a multiple-choice written test. Practical exercises will follow theory where each learning outcome must be successfully met to receive certification.
