Target group
This course is suitable for personnel with electrical, instrument or mechanical background within industry who require a basic understanding in the selection and installation of equipment for hazardous areas.

None required.
Objective
This competence-based course, is designed to give an understanding in hazardous area concepts for the use of electrical equipment and explains the protection methods from manufacture to installation, inspection and maintenance as per the requirements of the NEC 500, NEC 505 and IEC.
Course content
Delegates who successfully complete this course will acquire the following knowledge and skills: • Equipment & area classification • ATEX Directives • Ignition properties • NEMA Enclosure Types • Explosion proof • Pressurization • Intrinsic safety systems • Hermetically sealed protection • Oil immersion • Encapsulation • Restricted breathing • NEMA 250 & Ingress protection • Conduit systems, cable types, glanding • Inspections, maintenance for electrical and instrumentation • Written Assessment
Exam
Delegates will be assessed against the Learning Outcomes specified in the Content Section using direct observation and oral and/or written questions as appropriate. Delegates will be required to undertake a written test. The pass mark for this course is 80%. Should a delegate encounter challenges to meet these Learning Outcomes, RON shall provide additional coaching as an opportunity to meet those requirements
