Target group
This course is designed to meet the highest industry standards in training personnel to take charge as Coxswain of a Totally Enclosed Motor Propelled Survival Craft (TEMPSC) in the abandonment of a vessel or installation.
Prerequisites
Pre-requisite training for this course is possession of a current Life boat Coxswain, BOSIET, T BOSIET or FOET Certificate.
Objective
This course is delivered using the OPITO and Oil & Gas UK standard as the guidelines in training personnel to take charge as Coxswain of a Totally Enclosed Motor Propelled Survival Craft (TEMPSC). Training is carried out at the purpose-built Offshore Survival Training Centre at the Centre of Excellence in Trinidad which is equipped with a twin fall FASSMER 60 man lifeboat. Delegates train on a generic twin fall system but includes theory and practical examples of the different types including singe fall enabling the trained person to be totally interchangeable on most Offshore installations with either vessel type.
Course content
Delegates who successfully complete the course will have acquired the knowledge and skills to: • Take charge of an assigned TEMPSC. • Launch and recover twin fall TEMPSCs and move off to a safe area (using realistic platform abandonment exercisesat sea). • Establish and maintain communications with installations and support vessels. • Maintain safety of personnel and TEMPSC, including man overboard. • Disembarking and transferring of personnel. • Practice good seamanship. VHF Radio Training • General Radio Knowledge • Practical Use Of A VHF Radio / Simulator • Voice Procedure And Radio Discipline • Distress, Urgency & Safety Communications • D.S.C. & G.M.D.S.S. Systems And Their Use Practical: Practical exercises and assessment encompasses these topics via practical driving and navigation assessment in the open sea. One (1) day Theory and initial Practical at the RON facilities at Centre of Excellence followed by One (1) day practical driving and navigation assessment at Chaguaramas.
Exam
Delegates will be practically assessed against the following criteria: • Ablity to take charge of assigned TEMPSC. • Confidence to carry out procedures and boat handling. • Ability to safely & competently carry out the role of Coxswain. Delegates are assessed against industry agreed competency standards. Should delegates fail to meet these standards RON shall provide additional coaching to provide the delegate with as much of an opportunity as possible to meet those requirements.
