The training is to equip delegates with knowledge and skills on the Donut Personal Descent Device so they can use it correctly in case of an emergency. It is designed for novices or as a refresher for experienced personnel.
Prerequisites
Delegates are to be comfortable working at height.
Objective
To provide individuals with the knowledge and principles associated with basic familiarisation for practical descents from a height.
As well as providing the delegate with the confidence to use the Donut system during an Emergency Evacuation.
Course content
Delegates who successfully complete this course will acquire the following knowledge and skills. ‘At the end of the course the student must be able to:
1. State the HSE hazards relevant to the Donut Personal Descent Device.
2. State the purpose of the Donut Personal Descent Device.
3. State when the Donut Personal Descent Device should be used.
4. Describe the principle of operation of the Donut Personal Descent Device.
5. Demonstrate correct use of the Donut Personal Descent Device for controlled descent to a (simulated) liferaft.
6. Demonstrate correct use of the Donut Personal Descent Device for controlled descent incorporating a ‘Lockoff’ and a drift/swim away scenario.
The course is in two parts;
1. An Instructor led classroom presentation of the Donut descent device.
2. An Instructor led series of student practical descents and associated tasks. Two x Physical Descents ( 1 x escape to Life Raft / 1 x Lock off and swim away ) to provide the Delegates the full Knowledge and Confidence of use in the Donut system.
Exam
Delegates are assessed against DONUT’s agreed competency requirements. Should delegates fail to meet these standards, RelyOn Nutec shall provide additional coaching to provide the delegate with as much of an opportunity as possible to meet those requirements.
