Helideck Operations Initial Training Standard (HLO and HDA Initial Training)

The target audiences are the personnel who are to be appointed to the role of an Offshore Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO) and/or Offshore Helideck Assistant (HDA).

As a minimum, learners must have completed Dangerous Goods by Air training course in accordance with Part 1 of the ICAO Technical Instructions and sub section 1.5 of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, Functions 7.2, 7.4 and 7.5, previously categories 7, 8 or 9 or state aviation approved dangerous goods awareness training course. Medical Entry Requirements: Possess a valid, current offshore medical certificate or Possess an operator approved medical certificate or Undergo medical screening by the OPITO approved Centre.

Theory: - Key parts of relevant helideck operations regulations and guidelines - Offshore helideck landing areas - Helicopter, helideck equipment and systems - Helideck and helideck hazards - Helicopter Refueling equipment - The roles and key responsibilities of HLOs and HDAs - HLO and HDA checks, procedures and communications during helicopter operations - Cargo Handling procedures and protocols - HLO and HDA responsibilities on a NUI Practical: - Carrying out HLO checks, procedures and communications during helicopter operations. - Carrying out HDA checks, procedures and communications during helicopter operations. - Handling cargo as an HLO - Handling cargo as an HAD - Handling passengers as an HLO - Handling Passengers as an HDA No. of Learners: Minimum is 4 and maximum is 12 Mode: Classroom training with practical demonstration & exercises on helicopter prop. Location: RelyOn Training Centre at Qatar Instructor: Competent Instructional staff with extensive experience in aircraft operations, flight safety, Aeronautical Radio Procedures and delivering OPITO courses.
