Target group
The IADC WellSharp “Well Control for Drilling Operations – for Drillers” course has been designed for anyone expected to shut-in a well, such as drillers and assistant drillers.
Add Pre Requisites
Prior IADC or IWCF certification at Introductory or Driller Level is required. The training is role-specific so previous experience in an assistant driller or driller role during drilling operations is assumed. Please contact us to discuss candidate suitability if you have any doubts or queries.
Objective
The IADC WellSharp Driller Level Well Control course is essential training for those currently working in a role that is expected to shut-in a well. The course aims to reinforce and improve the candidate’s existing knowledge and appreciation of the various stages of shutting-in a well; from kick detection to shutting in the well, to monitoring once the well is shut in and monitoring the well-kill operation.
Course content
The course is delivered over 5 days through presentation of a series of interactive lectures supported by videos and animations, supplemented by a classroom workbook and further self-study exercises and practical work on a drilling simulator. Topics covered include:  Drilling, Workover & Completion Plan - Awareness  Shut In Procedures & Verification  Well Control Concepts  Post Shut In Monitoring & Activities  Mud & Pit Management  Pre-Recorded Data Well Control Methods  Casing & Cementing Considerations  Causes of Kicks  Risk Management  Barriers  Equipment  Shallow Gas, Water Flows & Tophole Drilling  Extract of Subsea Elements  Abnormal Pressure Warning Signs  Well Control Drills  Kick Detection  Choke and Kill Line Friction  Autoshear  Choke and Kill Line Fluid Densities  Emergency Disconnect System  Riser Disconnect and Riser Gas  ROV Hot Stab Capability  Hang Off Drill  Riser Gas Handling Equipment  Stack Glass Clearing Procedure  Extract of Subsea Elements  Displacing Riser Post Kill  Deadman  Hands-on simulation exercises will be conducted
Exam
Successful completion of the course and a minimum score of 75% in the written assessment and 70% in the practical skills assessment will result in IADC WellSharp Driller Level certification which is valid for two years.
