Target group
Individual holding an officer endorsement which serves as the license and/or certificate of registry pursuant to 46 U.S.C. subtitle II part E. Any applicant who has successfully completed your Advanced Fire Fighting (HOUSTM-15) course will satisfy: The Advanced Fire Fighting training requirements of 46 CFR 11.201(h) and l 1.303(a); AND The standards of competence required by STCW Code Section A-VI/3 and Table A­VI/3, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 09-14(Ch-l).
Add Pre Requisites
(1) 11.302(a) must provide evidence of meeting the standard of competence for basic training (BT); OR (2) 11.302(a)(2) must provide evidence of meeting the standard of competence in fire prevention and firefighting as set out in Table A-VI/1-2 of the STCW code; OR (3) 11.302(c)(2) Mariners who have at least 1 year (360 days) of seagoing service within the previous 5 years must provide evidence of maintaining the standard of competence set out in Table A-VI/1-2 of the STCW code The Code of Federal Regulations 46 CFR 10.403(a)(3) requires training to be administered entirely in the English language unless specifically approved to be presented in another language. Students must be able to read and write in English to take the written exam and successfully complete the course.
Objective
Each student who successfully completes this course will develop and expand their knowledge in the concepts of flame control and emergency response; preparation of equipment and safety precautions needed for the different types of fires; and awareness of prevention through the knowledge of the ways fires are caused and extinguished.
Course content
This 4 day (32 hr.) course teaches advanced fire fighting theory and practice as they apply to the maritime workplace. It is intended to meet the training requirements established by competency requirements of Section A-VI/3 and Table A-Vl/3 of the STCW Code following NVIC 09-14. The following topics will be discussed: - Control Firefighting Operations Aboard Ships - Organize and Train Fire Party - Inspect and Service Fire Detection and Fire Extinguishing Systems and Equipment - Investigate and Compile Reports on Incidents Involving Fire
Exam
In order to successfully complete this course, each candidate must obtain a grade percentage of not less than 70% on examination. In addition to the written test, the delegate will have to successfully complete a number of scenario based exercises 46 CFR 10.403(a)(4) requires a written examination. Course Instructors are not permitted to assist with taking written exams.
