Prerequisites
A person must be of at least 16 years of age. A person must hold a Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats (FRB) to participate in this course. All participants must complete the “Fatigue Management at Sea” online training prior to attending this course. A valid certificate of completion must be provided before the start of training. ITEMS REQUIRED FOR TRAINING: - When checking in for training, please have your GOVERNMENT ISSUED PHOTO ID with you (i.e.: Passport or Drivers Licenses, etc.) - Shorts, T-Shirt, and Socks for pool exercises - Towels, shower facilities on site - Lock for locker - A change of clothes for Sea Day (in the winter bring warm clothes such as a sweatshirt and sweatpants) PLEASE NOTE: Certificates CANNOT be issued unless valid Government issued ID has been presented on Day 1 of training for all ROC courses, including OPITO approved training. Course activities will involve various physical activities.
Objective
This refresher training course is designed to comply with the regulations and to refresh the seafarers’ skills in basic emergency duties through demonstrations and practical drills and exercises. Upon successful completion of this course the trainee will maintain the minimum standard of competence in fast rescue craft, a trainee will continue to be competent to handle and take charge of such boats during or after launching in adverse weather and sea conditions. They will be able to operate a fast rescue boat engine. A trainee will know how to properly right a capsized fast rescue boat. Trainees will know the correct use of all locating devices, including communication, navigation and signaling equipment between the rescue boat and a helicopter and the ship; and how to carry out search patterns. This course meets the requirements of Table A-VI/2-2 of the STCW Convention Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats as well as the requirements of TP 4957E MED Training Courses Section 15 Refresher Training Course in Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats (REF-FRC). Seafarers qualified in fast rescue boats in accordance with STCW Convention Chapter VI, Section A-VI/2, paragraph 10, must, every five years, provide evidence of having maintained the required standard of competence to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities listed in column 1 of table A-VI/2-2 of the Convention.
Course content
Aims and Objectives of Training To refresh seafarers’ skills in the operation of fast rescue boats in accordance with the STCW Code and TP 4957 which include: 1) To handle and take charge of fast rescue boats during or after launch in adverse weather and sea conditions. 2) To operate a fast rescue boat engine. 3)To right a capsized fast rescue boat 4)Trainees will know the correct use of all locating devices, including communication and signalling equipment between the rescue boat and helicopter and the ship 5) To carry out search patterns and effect rescue. The course consists of a minimum of 14 hours of training, including 3.5 hours of classroom instruction and 10.5 hours of on-site practical training, which includes both the written and practical evaluations.
